This year is our 61st year of chimney manufacturing, our 49th year of NFPA committee activity and our 33rd display at the AHR show.
We began producing our Model 1 refractory lined insulated residential chimney in 1944 and still receive calls for replacement stack caps even though the model was discontinued in the early 60's.
Since those early days our product line has continually developed and we now maintain a modern fabrication shop, employing the latest methods and equipment.
Servicing representatives worldwide, we still have been able to maintain our friendly small town dedication to quality and service.
A few of the notable events throughout the years are listed here:
- 1947-Introduced UL listed 103 Residential Chimney
- 1957-First UL listed 959 Medium Heat Chimneys
- 1968-Begin producing custom freestanding chimneys

In 1944 General MacArthur was pressing through the Pacific Islands, Bing Crosby was best
actor, Michael Douglas, Danny DiVito, and Diana Ross were born. A loaf of bread was 9¢, a
new car cost $1220.00, gasoline was 21¢ per gallon, the stock market was at 152 and R.J.
VanAlstein and L. Packer Brown started a chimney company in Buda, Illinois.
With the continued support of our employees, customers, suppliers and friends, Van-Packer
is still around and thriving sixty+ years later.
So while you are pumping $3.00/gal gas into your $30,000 Chevy, while drinking a
$4.00 latte, grumbling about a DOW at 10,000 and thinking 'gee, his wife looks great,
but how old is that Michael Douglas?' We at Van-Packer take this opportunity to rededicate
ourselves to providing the commitment to quality and service that has brought us this far.
